Ratio is a self-taught artist whose work is deeply influenced by music, graffiti, textures, and the urban landscape. Originally from the rural countryside, his move to the city ignited a fascination with the vibrant world of wall graffiti, torn posters advertising club nights, musicians, and fashion. This new environment became a constant source of inspiration.
His creative process is entirely intuitive, driven by feeling. It often begins with the sounds of music in his studio, setting the tone for the painting to come. From there, he builds his pieces through layers of color washes, graffiti, torn posters, plaster, and concrete, creating a unique surface language that feels alive with energy.
Now based in London, Ratio's work explores the search for a personal language, one that speaks through abstraction, memories, and dreams—emotions that words can't fully capture. His art embodies a mix of optimism, chaos, risk, and spontaneity, imbuing each piece with a distinctive voice and personality. Drawing from his deep connection to music and dance, the movement, color, and energy in his paintings are choreographed in a non-verbal, instinctive flow—capturing the essence of emotion through color, line, and gesture.
1. How do you deal with the constant demand for new collections?
It’s definitely a balancing act. On one hand, there’s a certain pressure to keep producing and evolving, but on the other, I try to stay true to my creative process. I take inspiration from the world around me,, whether personal experiences, nature, or social movements. It’s important for me to stay grounded and not rush the work just because people expect new pieces. I focus on quality over quantity, which means sometimes stepping back to let ideas and concepts mature before bringing them to life.
2. What does it take to have true taste in art? How has that changed the way you approach your work?
Taste is about understanding and connecting with what’s genuine, both as an artist and viewer. For me, it's about creating something that resonates deeply, not just aesthetically pleasing. Over time, I’ve learned that true taste isn’t just about following trends or what's popular. It’s about staying authentic to your own voice while also being open to evolution. As I've grown, I've found myself pushing boundaries more,, experimenting with new techniques and mediums to express complex ideas more refinedly.
3. Where do you see yourself in another 10 years?
In 10 years, I hope to have built a deeper connection with a global audience. I'd love to have my work showcased in more international galleries and continue collaborating with other artists. I also see myself exploring different forms of expression, maybe venturing into installations or digital art. The art world is constantly evolving, and I want to evolve with it. But more than anything, I hope to still create work that challenges me and leaves a lasting impact on the people who experience it.
4. Your art has been getting a lot of attention lately. How does it feel to see your work being recognised globally?
It’s incredibly humbling. When you put so much of yourself into your work, it’s not always easy to imagine how others’ll receive it. To see my paintings being recognised on such a wide scale is surreal. At the same time, it’s motivating. It reassures me that what I’m doing has a place in the world, and it drives me to keep pushing myself creatively. I’m grateful for every opportunity that comes my way and excited for what’s next.
5. What is your biggest challenge in your artistic journey so far?
The biggest challenge has probably been overcoming self-doubt. It’s easy to get caught up in comparisons or question whether your work is 'good enough.' But as I’ve grown as an artist, I’ve learned that confidence comes from within. It’s about trusting the process, staying true to my vision, and not being afraid to take risks. That’s when the most exciting work happens you step outside your comfort zone and allow yourself to make mistakes, knowing they’ll lead you to new discoveries.
